Taking luxury travel to new, umm, heights, the company has simultaneously taken social distancing to sub-aquatic levels with the first six-person leisure submarine.
If looking out onto drab grey streets and skyscrapers got you down last year, the Triton 3300/6 offers the world’s largest transparent spherical passenger compartment, with 360-degree views of the ocean depths.
The submarine has a certified rating of 1,000 metres, which means your underwater show will be wondrously exclusive. For the sake of comparison, “deep sea” is defined as anything below 200 metres (the world record for a scuba dive is 332 metres).
Admittedly, the idea of being submerged so deeply underwater might not sit well with submechanophobes – people with a fear of submerged man-made objects. But, if you’ve made it through 2020, the deep sea’s perpetual darkness or skull-crushing pressure might just feel like another Thursday.
Apparently, a personal submarine is best experienced if you’ve already got a mega-yacht to pair it with. Taking a deep sea dive in a personal submarine is an elevated version of snorkelling at a junk party, whereby a boat is required to get out far enough to see something of interest. But, once you’ve got your mega-yacht and mega-submersible combo, the underwater world is your oyster. Described as “a salon under the sea”, the Triton 3300/6 is 2.5 metres in diameter on the outside, giving five square metres in interior volume: similar dimensions to those of the cabin of a six-passenger private jet.
The submarine comes with club-class seating and custom leather detailing, potentially matching the exterior paint job of your choice (the owner of the very first Triton 3300/6 chose Tiffany Blue).
The Triton 3300/6 is the first in a series of multi-person submarines. The Triton 1650/7, for example, currently under construction, promises a bigger interior to accommodate up to seven, including your undersea pilot.
